International Women’s Day: Transforming Your Mindset

Amerant recently hosted an inspiring event, “International Women’s Day: Transforming Your Mindset,” designed for all team members while pushing for women empowerment in the workplace. The event centered on developing a growth-oriented mindset to build confidence and achieve success. Through powerful presentations and shared experiences, participants explored strategies to overcome self-limiting beliefs, build resilience, and realize their full potential.

Opening Remarks: The Queen’s Power

The event began with Kristy Amaro, SVP Head of Education, who shared a compelling analogy from chess with her daughter: while the king may be the most important piece, the queen is the most powerful. This set the stage for guest speaker, author, and mentor Erika Obando.

Keys to Personal Transformation

Erika delivered an impactful presentation covering several key themes:
• Safeguarding your emotions and managing life’s highs and lows
• Recognizing your emotional well-being as your most valuable currency
• Setting boundaries with toxic individuals
• The importance of investing in education and personal development
• Being comfortable asking for help when needed
• Establishing clear boundaries both professionally and personally
• Developing active listening skills
• Building strategic alliances with male colleagues that can create new opportunities

To conclude her presentation, Erika facilitated a meaningful exercise where attendees wrote notes about what they admired in the person sitting next to them—creating a powerful bonding experience for everyone present.

Leadership Insights: A Fireside Chat

Following Erika’s presentation, the event featured a fireside chat moderated by Erika, with Mariola Triana Sanchez, SEVP, Chief People Officer, and Sharymar Calderon, SEVP Chief Financial Officer. The executives shared personal insights beyond their professional titles and offered motivational advice on advancing with both determination and grace.

Career Wisdom from Experience

Mariola recounted her career journey from law school through private practice to eventually joining a local bank. She emphasized the advice she gives her daughter: “Do what makes you happy, and life will guide you to the right place.” Mariola noted that while you can earn money anywhere, it’s the people you work with that truly make the difference.

Sharymar spoke about the importance of finding your own version of work-life balance, recognizing there’s no universal approach. She shared a valuable leadership principle: “Address negatives privately but celebrate successes publicly.”
The event provided attendees with both practical strategies and inspiration to transform their mindsets and approach their professional and personal lives with renewed confidence.
